Nintendo - For SNES
Star Fox
Game Type | Game Size | Release
Shooter | 8 MB | Mar 1993

Soar through the skies as Fox McCloud in Star Fox, an ultra-realistic space shooter made from polygonal graphics. Aside from the outstanding graphics, the play control in this title is just as primo as we've come to expect from the Big N. With branching paths and a notable learning curve, not to mention some catchy tunes, you'll be playing this one more than once.

Data East - For SNES
Shadowrun
Game Type | Game Size | Release
RPG | 8 MB | May 1993
testimage

Burned out on swordplay and dragons in high fantasy role-playing games? Shadowrun is a horse of a different color. Taking place in a futuristic, mega-corporate cityscape, this punky explorer throws you directly into the dark action. Search for information, talk to rival gangs, and build your own adventure. This mature title one is a lovely change of pace for the Super NES.

Accolade - For SNES
Bubsy
Game Type | Game Size | Release
Action | 16 MB | May 1993
testimage

This bobcat has kept us waiting! Was it worth holding your breath over? Well, not exactly. The four colorful worlds of Bubsy are your standard platforming fare, and the animations are plentiful and do merit the occasional chuckle, but the wacky and cartoonish journey is nothing that veteran games players haven't seen before. Worth a rental to see and judge for yourself.

Delphine - For GENESIS
Flashback
Game Type | Game Size | Release
Action | 12 MB | Feb 1993
testimage

Delphine Software strikes back with a brilliant iteration of Flashback for the Genesis. Utilizing cinematic polygon graphics much like the lauded Out of This World, this new quest pits man vs. mystery as you see to learn more about a strange alien planet. We're astounded that all six fun and memorable levels could fit on a standard Sega cart. Unless you have a pricey PC, this is the version to get.

Sega - For GENESIS
Cool Spot
Game Type | Game Size | Release
Action | 8 MB | April 1993
testimage

A video game based on the 7-Up mascot? In most cases, we would share your skepticism. Yet Cool Spot is no less thrilling and rewarding as any other action platformer on the market. As the aforementioned red spot, collect soda bottles and mounds of dots on your way to rescue some kidnapped friends. This one's nothing complex or groundbreaking, but it's commendable all around.

Sega - For GENESIS
X-Men
Game Type | Game Size | Release
Action | 8 MB | April 1993
testimage

Smash up Magneto's minions and take control of one of four X-Men superheroes; Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, or Nightcrawler. Graphics and animation for an 8-Meg cart are OK, but this isn't the greatest comics-based game available on the Genesis. If you're a die-hard fan of the genre, you may love this one, but otherwise the choppy, lackluster side-scrolling gameplay is a major turn-off for us.

Final Fight CD for Sega's CD add-on console is, and without exaggeration, the best version of the acclaimed fighter you can buy and take home. Play as all three heroes in 2-player action in a title that excellently ports the arcade smash hit. This is a simply a no-brainer purchase if you have a Sega CD. Devs, please keep converting those arcade games to CD - It's what put the Genesis on the map! Keep this up and it'll blow away the SNES-CD even before that gets released.

TTI - For TG16-CD
Lords of Thunder
Game Type | Game Size | Release
Shooter | CD | March 1993
testimage

Air combat doesn't get much better than this! We're glad to say Lords of Thunder meets and exceeds the tower-high expectations set by its predecessor on the Turbo. Take on swarms of robotic aliens in this lightning quick shooter, using your skills to eliminate the enemies before they knock you out! This is a brutal shooter that will require a bit of power-up experimentation and re-playing, but there is plenty here to grab you along that journey.
