Capcom's answer to Frederick Raynal's 1992 Alone in the Dark is a shockingly visceral experience unlike anything yet seen in the gaming space. Resident Evil skitters out into the world like one of the many monsters that will hunt you down to eat you alive! Originally conceived as a remake to the Japan-exclusive NES title Sweet Home, the game found its footing and turned into something completely new! RE combines photorealistic graphics with a creepy soundtrack, full motion video, and all manner of horrifying creatures to bring your worst nightmares to life.

The game follows the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S.) as they search for their missing squadmates. Things quickly get hairy as their chopper pilot takes off, leaving them stranded and on the run from monstrous dogs in the woods. The group finds a mansion and, well, the rest is up to you to find out! You get the option to play as Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield. With the characters uniquely being utilized as difficulty options. Jill's playthrough being easier than Chris'. Keys, monsters, and a host of brain twisting puzzles await you in the mansion. If you like horror, you won't want to miss this one! Even if it's not, you should still give it a shot! Who knows? You might end up a fan!

 GAMEPLAY: Very Good
 GRAPHICS: Excellent
 SOUND: Very Good
 PRESENTATION: Excellent
JET'S REMARK: RE stands out for its deadly fun gameplay, spooky camera angles, and smooth animation, bringing horrific nightmares to life on the PS-X. My only genuine gripe is the sporadic saving mechanic which can be tedious to use.
