Zooming down the track into your living rooms is the new and improved version of Virtua Racing for the Sega 32X. Our team was wholly impressed with the Genesis portover of this arcade classic last May, a super-sized cart boosted with the power of the SVP chip, but we are pleased to see this edition inch even-closer to the glorious coin-op. We're talking a marked step-up in graphical fidelity as well as a hyper-smooth framerate. No stuttering whatsoever! VR's modern rock soundtrack is here in full force, and the voice sampling is nice and crisp. Despite the use of cartridges instead of CD-Rom technology, Sega defied expectations yet again.
In addition to these welcome fixes, Sega developers looked to live up to that Deluxe moniker by including two extra vehicles - the Stock and Prototype cars - as well as a couple new tracks for players to zip through at ultra-high speeds. Though we were thrilled to play around with these features, the core gameplay is unchanged, can get stale after an hour or so of playtime, and in these days feels a bit prehistoric. Don't try to slam that cart in thinking it will be Daytona. Nevertheless, while we wait for Saturn, our pit crew will happily enjoy experiencing the joys of competitive, polygonal Sega racing in deluxe fashion.

A superb portover of the arcade cab with impressive graphics, easy-to-use controls, and a super-high framerate. If the Genesis edition did not quench your racing thirst, try burning some 32X rubber!
