Ah, a poorly designed licensed game. This is truly a tale as old as time. Disney's smash success, Beauty and the Beast, found its way to the video gaming space several times over. This new title made exclusively for NES, however, may be the worst of the bunch. Playing as the titular Beast sounds wonderful in theory: A Hulk-like behemoth with super-strength ripping angry villagers to shreds. To our unsurprising dismay, the developers behind this cart took the easy route and created a dull-as-rocks scrolling platformer. The Beast merely jogs through generic castle halls, ceaselessly getting mauled by rats and spiders.

Play control is dirt poor, which when combined with crumbling floors and huge gaps to leap across, makes for an agonizing time. Spikes randomly jut out from the ground, statues fall as you climb staircases, and fireballs fly at you without warning. Oh, not to mention off-center hit detection. Talk about unfair! Hudson Soft must hope you enjoy staring at castle walls as well, since it's all you'll be seeing for hours. Horrendous graphics and mediocre gameplay may be the jam on the NES' toast, but this title could have been made six years ago and we would be none the wiser. Keep far away from this haunted abode.
