Handing the much-coveted Slime of the Season award to a full-motion video game may seem obvious. All of us are sick to death of these mundane, uncreative, and unfun discs, but Corpse Killer was meant to change all of that. Digital Pictures spent loads on marketing to convince games players that this was an earnest attempt at a movie-within-a-game. In all fairness, the B-movie horror plotline is a bright spot, but only in a "So bad it's good" kind of way. Shooting zombies via a screen cursor is boring, the repetitive battles are void of strategy, but the worst aspect of this one goes deeper than that.

Look Out for the Costumed Weirdo! |
Corpse Killer wins this Slime award not necessarily for its laughably poor gameplay, but because of the totally absurd play requirements. How the heck is THIS the best you can get after shelling out $200 for a Sega-CD and $160 for the 32X? You've jammed all open compartments of the elderly Sega Genesis with add-ons and upgrades, and your reward is a zombified FMV mess. A slightly blurrier variant is also available that works for the base Sega-CD, but the difference between the two versions is so miniscule, one wonders why this was released for 32X at all? Those hankering for an undead gorefest ought to look elsewhere, since all you'll find after purchasing CK is a monstrous electric bill.
