Players who fell for Raven Software's first-person shooter Heretic will be overjoyed to learn that its sequel improves virtually everything. Hexen: Beyond Heretic places you in the fantastical realm of Cronos, a vast land containing a series of hub areas that may explored and re-explored to your pleasure. As either a Mage, Warrior, or Cleric, face off against monstrosities of all breeds using unique weaponry and abilities exclusive to the chosen character class. Hexen sets itself apart from the rest by allowing a sense of openness and non-linearity combined with lifelike sound effects emanating from the fearsome creatures. Its pixelated graphics are a let-down, but all else makes up for it.
