Tempest 2000
For Jaguar Developer: Atari Release: TBD 1994
Tempest for the Next Millenium. Tempest 2000 is the upcoming space shooter for the Jaguar developed by Lamasoft and published by Atari. Long ago during the Golden Years of video arcades, when Atari ruled across Pangaea, a vector-based cabinet titled Tempest gave gaming audiences the old shock n' awe treatment. Nowadays, powered-up by the raw power of 64-Bit technology, Tempest 2000 looks to stand in its great-grandfather's footsteps and razzle players the world over. Its gameplay showcase at CES revealed a handful of notable upgrades from the original cab, more than anything a two-player "Tempest Duel" mode where players compete for the highest score along an ever-changing variety of vector-inspired stages. |

MegaRace
For 3DO Developer: Software Toolworks Release: Spring 1994
An all-new 3-D racing simulator is making its way to 3DO! Crash 'N' Burn was one interpretation of a 32-Bit racer, and Software Toolworks is onto another. MegaRace takes place within a faux game show hosted by a wacky, sunglasses-clad sleaze. His introduction imaginatively sets the scene with the exclamation, "It ain't real! It's a whole lot better than real, baby!" MegaRace boils down to a series of dangerous, high-speed contests along futuristic interstate highways and Atlantis-like undersea tunnels. Demos for this disc did give us reviewers a taste of simulated speed and car vs. car combat, but there's a bit more development to go. Software Toolworks promises a one-of-a-kind experience when MR launches exclusively on 3DO. |
